API 5L SPECIFICATIONS
API specifications are published by the American Petroleum Institute (API) and API 5L is a specification for welded or seamless steel line pipe. The API is the only national association representing all facets of the oil and natural gas industry. This supports around 10.5 million US jobs and it is around 8 percent of the US economy. These specifications are designed to help standardize the materials and equipment involved. API standards allow for improved operational excellence, it ensures compliance and safe practices, and it reduces risks of equipment failure. API maintains more than five hundred standards and recommended practices. API standards are updated regularly; therefore, it is important to refer to the most up-to-date specifications. API wants to promote safety across the industry globally while influencing public policy in support of a strong viable US oil and natural gas industry.

API 2B
API 2B is a specification for welded steel-plate applied when building offshore drilling platforms. This specification usually tends to be greater than 14” in size while the thickness is also on the larger size ranging from ⅜ in and greater. The maximum length of an API 2B specification is usually around 40ft. The clients are able to request API 2B based on the applications they are going to use the pipe for.
API 5CT
API 5CT is a standard specification for the manufacturing processes, property requirements, testing methods, and required dimensions for seamless and welded steel casing and tubing. This standard is applicable to casing, production tubing, couplings, pup joints, connectors, and various downhole accessories in all grades. The size range of the outer dimensions for API 5CT is usually from 6mm-219mm. The wall thickness for 5CT is usually from 1 mm-30mm. The clients are able to request API 5CT based on the applications that they are going to use the pipe for.
API5L
API 5L is used to specify the type of welded or seamless steel pipe needed, and these pipes are used in pipeline transportation systems for petroleum and natural gas. This pipe is offered in seamless and welded in order to meet the particular challenges of all the transmission environments. API 5L is suitable for conveying either gas, water, and oil. The size range of API 5L tends to be limited to only what the manufacturer is capable to do. The API 5L offers many benefits such as they are preferred in long pipelines due to the cheap cost, and the pipeline steel is very resistant to crack or leakings. API 5L steel pipe comes in a variety of wall thicknesses and it is manufactured domestically, to order, to meet customer’s particular application requirements. The client may request API5L based on the application that they are going to use the pipe for.
API 5LS
API 5LS is a specification for spiral-weld line pipe. This specification provides standards for pipe suitable for use in conveying gas, water, and oil in the natural gas and oil industries. This standard applies to pipeline transportation systems for the petroleum and natural gas industries. The API 5LS covers seamless and welded steel line pipe. This includes plain-end, threaded-end, belled-end pipe, as well as through-the-flowline pipe, and pipe with ends prepared for use with special couplings. The client may request API 5LS based on the application that they are going to use the pipe for.
API5LU
API5LU is a specification for ultra high-test heat treated line pipe. This specification covers ultra high-strength welded or seamless steel line pipe for use in transporting oil and gas. API5LU pipe is adjusted to be able to transport oil and gas with a heat treated pipe to allow for a better substance when the fluids reach the destination. The client may request API 5LU based on what application they are going to use the pipe for.
API 5LX
API 5LX is an API specification for high-strength welded or seamless line pipe. This specification applies to line pipe used to convey gas, oil, and water in the gas and oil industries. As stated earlier, this specification is used for the conveying of the gas and fluids that are high in volume so more strength in the pipe is needed. This allows for more gases and fluids to be transported over a shorter period of time. The client may request API 5LX based on what application they are going to use the pipe for.
